Asia, the most populous and the largest continent in the world shares its borders with Africa and Europe to the West, North America to the East and Oceania to the South. Asia and Europe are situated on the same landmass and in combination both are called Eurasia. As a result of this, some countries that are located on Asia soil are sometimes referred to as a part of Asia and sometimes as a part of Europe. Examples of these countries are Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
Islands separate the continent from the Oceania from the other side of the continent. Many a times, Indonesia and few parts of the Philippines are referred to be a part of Oceania than as a part of Asia.
Asia covers 8.8% of the total surface area of the Earth i.e 30% of its land area. To the east of the continent lie Suez Canal and the Ural Mountains and to the south of the continent lies Caucasus Mountains and also the Black Sea and the Caspian. The continent has Pacific Ocean to its east boundary and Indian Ocean towards the south and Arctic Ocean to its north. Total of 48 countries form a part of Asia out of which two Russia and Turkey have some of their parts situated in Europe.
Due to the vast geographic features of the continent, Asia experiences varied climatic conditions. The climate varies of arctic and subarctic in Siberia and Tropical climate in the Southern India and in the Southeastern Asia. In its Southeast Sections, the climate is mostly moist and it is dry mostly in the interior of the continent.
Southern and Eastern parts of the continent are dominated by the monsoons. Hotter sections of the continent are the countries situated on the southwestern area. One of the coldest areas of the Northern Hemisphere is Siberia. For the tropical cyclone activity, the most active place is situated towards the South of Japan and towards the northeast of the Philippines.
In Mongolia lies the Gobi Desert and towards the Middle East stretches the Arabian Desert. The longest river flowing is the Yangtze River in China. The highest mountain range of the world is situated between Nepal and China, the Himalayas. In the Southern Asia lies the Tropical rainforests and in the farther north like the deciduous and coniferous forests.
