Roads lead you places you have never been to and help you learn about the beauty of nature and the brains of mankind. There are spectacular roads that you can travel with lots of excitement and thrill. Here’s a list of few Highways that are sure to take your breath away.
1. ZOJI LA, India
Feasible to arrive at this long road connects two paradise Ladakh and Kashmir. It’s the second highest pass you will come across on Srinagar- Leh, at the height of 11,575 ft.
It stands second as the path to, ‘La’ meaning pass.
2. Trans-Siberian Highway, Russia
When the list of longest highways is made you will see, Trans-Siberian highway too along with Trans Canada Highway and Australia’s Highway. If you wish to get from Vladivostok to St. Petersburg, you will not only have a smooth ride but you won’t be able to keep your eyes off the scenic beauty, from the forest, mountain to dessert. There won’t be a single thing that won’t amaze you. It isn’t a Sunday drive as most of it is unpaved though if you are a good driver, it doesn’t matter.
3. Passage Du Gios, France
Riding on 2.7-mile long causeway is just a few hours journey. This beautiful road can be traveled only during certain months of the year as rest of time its submerged by the tides of Atlantic.
This disappearing bridge connects Noirmoutier to the mainland.
4. Stelvio Pass Road, Italy
Well, this road isn’t the scariest road, you could travel but traveling 2.7 km in Italian Alps becomes a little troublesome for many drivers.
5. North Yungas Road in Bolivia
This road has been given the name “the death road.” Located in Yungas region of Bolivia, it stretches over 40 miles from La Paz to Corico. ‘The death road’ isn’t the only name it has gained over the years, Inter-American Development Bank has named it as the ‘world’s most dangerous road.’ According to statics around 200 – 300 people have been killed driving on this road.
This traveled connects Bolivia to the Amazon Rainforest. Road is about 10 feet with no safety guards, as there are no rails to protect your car from any kind of drop offs, it’s suggested not to travel on this road. The weather is unpredictable adding to the threat. Dust, rain, and fog reduce the visibility contributing to mishaps. In 2006 construction was done and new bridges along with rails and drainage were made along with multiple lanes so that drivers can safely drive.
6. Khardung La, India
It won’t be wrong to say that this road touches the cloud as its 17,582 ft high. Driving on this road is not a cakewalk and not everyone’s cup of tea. Newbie drivers can literally piss in their pants driving on this path.
7. US Route 431 USA, Alabama
Now this the “highway to hell.” As you will pass this road, you will see the road to be dotted with crosses, each one of them made in the loving memory of the lives that highway has claimed. Scary, isn’t?
8. Guoliang Tunnel Road, China
In laps of Taihang Mountains, this road brings you to a small village where the modern world hasn’t touched yet. Therefore, you will have the essence of culture. Ages back men use to travel on foot crossing steep mountain to reach here but now the Chinese Govt. has made it even more feasible to reach at this beautiful village by a connecting road.
This road was built by not any one else but the villagers themselves in 1972, and it took almost five long years to finish. The tunnel is nearly a mile long and 16 feet tall with 13 feet of wideness. It is one of most travelled roads by the tourist as not only will you enter an ancient China but also will get to see a breathtaking view. However, this road is extremely dangerous during rainy seasons.
9. Karakoram Highway, Pakistan
It’s the “friendship highway,” as named by the Governments. It is the highest paved highway in the world. Connecting China to Pakistan with an elevation of 4,693 meters, it runs thigh Karakoram mountain range. Though it is a beautiful road to travel its prone to landslides and floods making it dangerous. But it has never held any tourist back from exploring the road and some spectacular silk road along the side.
