Mountains are nature’s beauty that stands still for thousands of years, telling the history that dates back to the Gods themselves. Tallest mountains are the most majestic places one can visit in their lifetime. Snowcapped or not, Covered with clouds or not, these beauties will be a sight you will never forget! They reach altitudes of almost 8000 meters above sea level; the mighty aren’t they!
The concrete jungles have now taken over lands that were once known to be the grounds of green lush. But thank God mountains aren’t something a man can just tear down as those peaks offer you escape from the polluted concrete world into the world that offers nothing but fresh air and peace of mind. These peaks have chosen their favorite location – The Himalayas, in the Indian subcontinent. Though it isn’t a place for habitation, a perfect spot for a perfect vacation. The beauty is endless, snowcapped mountains, birds chirping, rivers flowing with the purest water that there can be, nothing can beat this site.
Annapurna is a section of Himalayas where you will find these strong peaks standing for years and years, and you can say almost in a row. Annapurna I is heights amongst them all. It’s the 10th highest mountain in the world and is approx. 26,545 feet tall. Its peaks are dangerous as well as adventurous to climb, as the fatality rate reaches 40 %.
2. Dhaulagiri I, Dhaulagiri Himalaya
Spreading over 100s of km from the Kalingandaki river in the Ganges to Cheri river in Nepal. The peak is about 8,167 meters high and ranks the seventh highest peak. The highest point is the Gandak river basin. Dhaulagiri gets its name from Sanskrit “dahula” meaning dazzling and “giri” meaning mountain.
3. Nanga Parbat, Himalaya
Also, know as Deo-mir, Nanga Parbat is 8,126 meters high and falls under the GilgitBaltisan region of Pakistan. The mountain bears another famous name “ killer mountain.”
Cho Oyu, being the sixth highest peak, makes you explore 8,201 meters high peak. Cho Oyu means “ Turquoise Goddess.” It is the primary peak of Khumbu that is a sub-section of Mahalangaur Himalaya which is 20 km west of Mount Everest. This peak comes under the Tibet- Nepal border.
4. Makalu, Mahalangur Himalaya
We have now reached our top 5 listings. To make the top 5 you have to be special and Makalu certainly is. Its height is 8,485 meters high from sea level. French mountaineers first climbed the peak. The peak is four sided giving an illusion of a pyramid.
Lhotse takes the place of being the fourth highest mountain with a height of 8,516 m. The mountain has more addition to it, summit at 8,516 m, Lhotse Middle 8,414mt and Lhotse Shar 8,383 mt. This mountain has also chosen border of Nepal and Tibet as its home place.
6. Kangchenjunga, Kanchenjunga Himalaya
It was considered as the highest peak until 1852, accounts for the height of 8,586 m, located in India. It is called the “five peaks of snow.” The mountain is worship home for many localities of Sikkim and Darjeeling.
7. K2 / Godwin Austen / Qogir, Baltoro Karakoram
Bailstan of Pakistan bears reg highest point of Karakoram range. K2 height is 8,611 m and is known a savage mountain because of its difficulty that it offers to climbers. It has the lowest numbers of successful climbing attempts and has never been climbed in winters.
8. Mount Everest
The highest mountain and name know to every adult and child. The peak of 8,848 makes it the most mighty one. It’s the 5th tallest mountain measured from the center of the earth. Located on the border of Sagarmatha Zone, Tibet, and Nepal, China. It is a part of the Himalayan Range. Though being the highest, it attracts many climbers and is an easier option to climb in comparison to others.
