North America has tall and never ending forests in its heart with fields that are undulating, off the beat oases, metropolises and high as well as plain deserts.
In the south, Isthmus of Panama and extended towards the northwest are the tiny Islands of Aleutian which make North America, the third-largest continent. This is why the continent has in the northeast the island of Greenland, which is enormous and it has countries in the small islands, it also has territories in the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean in the west. Far in north, from the Aleutians to the Greenland almost halfway surrounding the entire world it stretches itself breathtakingly. It’s interesting to know that the continent is only 31 miles (only 50 Kms) across the narrowest part of the Panama.
The Climate of North America
The third largest continent, North America, spreads over 24,346,000 sq. km and is in the Western Hemisphere of two continents in the Northern area. The Continent is connected to South America because of the inclusion of the mainland and the related islands that are offshore and lie on the North of the Isthmus of Panama. Like the rich culture the climate has a lot of variety, dry, the Arctic cold bitterness, humid and steaming hot like that in the tropics. The permanent cover of an icecap adorns the interiors of the Greenland because the temperatures are always subzero. North America has the treeless plain in the north, famously known as tundra, which faces each summer the rise in temperature above the freezing whereas the areas in the south are very hot and it keeps raining there.
The summers are warm and pleasant and the winters cold in the rest of the continent, with precipitation almost moderate but some of the areas have long and mild winters and summers are hot while in other areas the winters are very harsh and summers are short. The continent has extension within 10 degree of the latitude from the North Pole and the equator, almost every climate zone it has, the permanent ice cap in Greenland to savanna in the Central America lowlands and the tropical rain forests. Subarctic climates prevailing in North Canada and tundra climates in North Alaska and the interior regions of the mountains standing tall that are cutoff from the rain bearing harsh winds of the west are deserted and have been found to have semiarid conditions. It’s very fortunate that most of the part of North America has climates that are really favorable towards agriculture and human settlement.
